A Word from the Honorary Co-Chair

How to promote the development of cities and regions in Quebec?
This is the theme of the CEFRIO’s upcoming symposium on April 9 and 10 at the Quebec City Convention Centre. I am pleased to be honorary co-chair to this international event gathering approximately thirty known speakers including Quebec researchers and experts will also discuss major achievements in regional and territorial development.

By attending the Symposium:
  • You will gain a better understanding of the upcoming key challenges for regions and cities to stand out in an increasingly competitive environment;
  • You will learn more on the most promising regional development strategies developed in Quebec and abroad, and on the barriers to their implementation;
  • You will discover how, according to the OECD, IT and the Internet now allow to let go of conventional defensive strategies and to take a resolutely offensive approach to development;
  • You will get answers to various questions such as: “What are the ins and outs of relocating activities regionally?”, “Why and how to turn a city into a creative city?” or “How to strengthen a region’s attractiveness for tourism?”;
  • You will realize that e-business pays off, not only for businesses in major cities, but also regionally;
  • You will have an opportunity to discuss practices from regional development experts facing similar problems as yours.

Economically, Quebec, its cities and its regions, have reached an important turning point in their history which began 400 years ago.  In that context, I invite you to join us and the 500 expected participants to the Symposium to discuss how Quebecers will collectively shift towards greater prosperity and improved quality of life.

The Honorary Co-chair,

Louis L. Roquet
